History

The "church" in the Bible is the body of Christian believers, not a special building or place. However, this section of the website is about St John's church building, the focal point at the centre of the village of Hartford. It has seen many changes over the years, the most recent being the addition of an extension on the West end of the building.

St John's Church History

This work was originally published as a booklet, produced a number of years ago by Graham Campbell, our church treasurer, a long-standing PCC member and member of Church of England General Synod.

There are three sections:

  1. a detailed history of the church
  2. the story of the building of the church extension
  3. a guided tour around the church interior

There is also a list of all the vicars of Hartford since 1864.
