CMS - Wim & Bertha Schoonbee

cmsschoonbees

Wim and Bertha Schoonbee are both qualified doctors and CMS mission partners who have been working since 2002 at Gahini Hospital, Rwanda.

As a qualified cataract surgeon Wim not only deals with eye surgery but is involved with a broad spectrum of patients from obstetrics, pediatrics and all kinds of surgery. Wim has also introduced eye services to nearby local rural communities through the Rehabilitation Centre that is linked to Gahini Hospital.

Bertha works with a group of blind students at the local secondary school. Here she teaches the students computer skills as well as helping them with Braille and English. During the afternoons she is their sports coach for the game of goalball (a specific sport for the blind). Bertha also helps people with other physical disabilities to learn craft skills such as the making of handmade cards or bead necklaces and finding markets for these crafts.

CMS also support other mission partners in countries like South Sudan, Egypt or Nigeria.

ifesmacleans

Working in a new role with IFES in Bangkok, Johnny and Ann McClean are currently involved with student groups that have been started in three universities.

Each group has between 3-15 students who are all believers and mostly from Christian families. The groups meet once a week for fellowship and bible study.

IFES is a non-denominational organization that brings together Christians from all cultures, languages and Christian traditions. It was founded in 1947 when leaders from ten Christian movements met at Harvard University in the United States.

The aim of IFES is to see a clear to the Lord Jesus established in every university in the world. IFES is established throughout the world in both North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

UCCF - Ruth Port

uccfruth_port

Ruth Port leads UCCF's work with Christian Unions in colleges and universities in the North West of England. Ruth joined UCCF in 2006. As Team Leader for the North West of England, Ruth is responsible for recruiting, supporting and developing her team of Christian Union Staff Workers, gap year students and Associate Staff Workers.

She doesn’t spend all her time with the team, she also drops in on the CUs across the North West throughout the year; sometimes for part of a day, sometimes for a weekend of training and sometimes for a whole week when they are holding their events week.

Though her primary role is with the university CUs in the region, Ruth spends time with the leaders and members of the CU at Sir John Deane’s College, in her home town of Northwich. In the summer of 2011 Ruth helped lead a team of Christian Students on a summer mission trip to Moldova. The team worked alongside the Moldovan sister movement of UCCF in running an evangelistic English and Bible camp.
