There has been a church on the St John’s site since 1824, and many families have connections with our parish. We are pleased to help with your genealogical research.
If you are looking for information on people who may have been baptised or married here or buried in our churchyard we can help with searches. We currently hold registers of burials from 1870, marriages from 1943, and baptisms from 1997. As with most archives there is a small search fee. There are also statutory fees which apply as detailed below. These are set nationally and not retained by the local church.
Searches are carried out by our verger, and only by appointment. To make an appointment, please contact the church office.
Please note: we do not make any charge for help finding recent graves where the intention is to mourn a loved one.
For information on baptisms prior to 1997, weddings prior to 1943 and burials prior to 1870, please contact Cheshire West and Cheshire Council who run the Cheshire Archives and Local Studies Service.
Charges are as follows:
| Basic charge for all searches | £7 per hour (or part thereof) |
| Additional statutory fee for search in baptism or burial registers (including a single copy of an entry) |
£12 for the first hour, £9 for subsequent hours |
| Additional statutory fee for each additional copy of an entry in the burial or baptism registers | £19 |
| Additional statutory fee for duplicate marriage certificate | £7 |
Typical charges, both assuming searches take less than an hour:
- Search in burial register and complete with a copy of an entry: £19
- Search in the marriage register with copy certificate: £14
All fees must be paid when the searches are conducted, by cheque payable to Hartford Parish Church.
