Learning more about the Christian faith

St John's runs courses and groups for people who want to find out more about what being a Christian means and for people who want to grow in their Christian faith. For times and more details, please see the Bible Teaching Programme, check the Welcome Desk at the back of church, or contact the office.

Our next BC Course starts in April 2008:

Christianity Explored

Christianity Explored is six evenings to help you sort out the fact from fiction in Christianity. Over coffee, listen to
a talk and then ask questions. It is for anyone who wants to find out more about the Christian faith whether they already come to church or not.

BC (Basic Christianity)

Our BC Course is for all those who want to find out more about the Christian faith.  It provides an opportunity to discuss questions in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere over a meal.  We recommend it to all who are new to the church or who have recently come back to the faith after some years away. This course usually runs every term. Doorway

Do you want to deepen your Christian faith and understanding?  Perhaps you are asking questions like: What is the Bible's big picture?  Why do Christians believe what they believe?  How do we make ethical choices today?  In that case, Doorway is for you.  Running in local centres across Chester Diocese, Doorway is three terms of eight weeks seeking to answer these three questions.  The course can be joined at the start of any term. Doorway

Housegroups and Prayer Fellowship

On Wednesday evenings at St John's we gather for prayer and Bible study. Some weeks we all join together at Prayer Fellowship, and the rest of the time we meet in smaller Housegroups across the parish. Our housegroups aim to follow the example of the early church as described in Acts 2.42-47, seeking to be devoted to Scripture, to one other, to meeting together and to evangelism. Here we can study God's word, pray and care for each other in ways that aren't possible in a large Sunday service.

Other Courses

In addition to the above, from time to time we run shorter courses which have included Our Anglican Faith (the 39 Articles), Evangelism, Biblical Themes, Parenting, Christian Ethics, Introductions to the Old and New Testaments. Suggestions for future courses welcome!
