St John's regularly runs courses and has groups for people who want to find out more about what being a Christian means and for people who want to grow in their Christian faith. For times and more details, please check the Welcome Desk at the back of church, or contact the office.
What is a Christian?
For a simple presentation on what a Christian is, please follow the link on the Finding Faith page. We also run courses for people who want to ask questions and find out about Christianity:
BC - Basic Christianity
Our BC Course is for all those who want to find out more about the Christian faith. It provides an opportunity to discuss questions in a friendly and relaxed atmospherel. We recommend it to all who are new to the church or who have recently come back to the faith after some years away. We run this course usually at least once every term, often with options for people who prefer daytime or evening meetings.
We also run a BC2 course, which looks at what the Bible says about things like prayer, going to church, evangelism and much more. It is ideal if you have done the BC course and want to know more, or if you are just wanting to refresh yourself with the basics of Christian life.
Housegroups and Prayer Fellowship
On Wednesday evenings at St John's we gather for prayer and Bible study. Some weeks we all join together at Prayer Fellowship, and the rest of the time we meet in smaller Housegroups across the parish. Our housegroups aim to follow the example of the early church as described in Acts 2.42-47, seeking to be devoted to Scripture, to one other, to meeting together and to evangelism. Here we can study God's Word, pray and care for each other in ways that aren't possible in a large Sunday service.
If you would like to join a housegroup, please talk to one of the ministers in church.
Other Courses
For those who have been Christians a while, we have our own The Ministry Course, which takes a deeper look at the Bible, church history, Christian theology and other issues. It runs over a number of terms and indeed there is now a Year 1 and Year 2 curriculum.
In addition to the above, from time to time we run shorter courses which have included Our Anglican Faith (the 39 Articles), Evangelism, Biblical Themes, Parenting, Christian Ethics, Introductions to the Old and New Testaments.
