Meet the new Children's and Youth Worker

helenI would imagine I am quite a familiar face to lots of people who live in Hartford - I have lived here all my life.
I went to play-group in the methodist Church Hall, and then was educated at Hartford Manor Primary School, Hartford High and Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College.

My mum and dad are both Christians, so made sure we attended Church as a family every week.
My first St John’s Sunday morning service was 13th April 1980, when I was 11 days old!
I grew up through all of the Children’s and Youth activities for which I am now responsible. And loved them.

When I was eighteen I left home for a brief spell at university, but when I returned I was invited straight back into the youth ministry as a leader. I joined the 11-14s team and have led 'Pathfinders' (as it is now called) every Friday night and Sunday morning since then.

In accordance with my childhood dream, I trained as a teacher and taught for eight happy years at St. Wilfrid's Catholic Primary. This was a great job and I really enjoyed it, however, I became increasingly involved with ministry at St. John's in my 'spare time' and realised that I just couldn't do both with the commitment and intensity that I wanted to.

Having made the very difficult decision to leave school and focus all of my efforts and attention on full-time Church work, I have not looked back.
I am thrilled to have been entrusted with this ministry and can’t wait to get on with things!

Please do have a look at all of the different groups and activities we are running and see if there is anything that interests you.

Through all of our Children’s and Youth groups, our aim is to teach the truth about Jesus, as revealed in the Bible, in a relevant  and interesting way.

We long that many children and young people in Hartford will come to know Jesus as their Saviour and their friend, grow in faith in him, and reach out to their own friends and family with the message of his power, love, grace and forgiveness.
