![]() | As you can see from our extended Youth Ministry Newsletter (large file, pdf format) there is a
lot happening at the moment. Please enjoy reading about everything, but
as you read I would encourage you to pray. Thank God for events past,
such as the Confirmation and the ‘Family Fortune’ Holiday Club. Pray
for those things happening this term and especially for our young
people who have exams. With so many things going on it may be a surprise for me to say that that busy-ness is not a good measure of effective youth and children’s work. I do think that we should be filling our time profitably and that God can use our hard work. But there is a danger in moving from delivering one event into immediately planning for the next. The danger is that we lose sight of our goal of evangelising and discipling young people and children for Christ. We can be so caught up with putting things on that we forget about the people we are doing it for. The truth is that the best youth ministry is done quietly and personally. It’s the weekly one-2-one Bible study, faithful personal prayer and the carefully prepared Bible talk. |
| It’s
relatively easy to put on the big events with music and bright lights,
all you need is money and manpower. But these events don’t always pay
dividend. It is much harder to keep going with an unseen and unlauded
personal work. But ultimately that is a far more effective way of
producing life-long disciples. Jesus said “Go and make disciples of all nations” not “Go and put on events in all nations”. Please pray that we would be faithful and effective in obeying his command. Roger Fawcett April 2008 | |
