Introducing St John's

Praise and thanks:

  • For the ‘The Good Shepherd/The Lost Sheep’ assemblies delivered during the Spring term, and the positive reaction we received from both children and staff.
  • For the Easter Story Trail, which this year ran at All Hallows’, Cheadle from 12th – 22nd March 2024. For the 23 school sessions which saw approx. 650 children and their staff attending, and for the engagement, focus and enjoyment of those who came.
  • For the blessing of All Hallows’ congregation members, with and through the Easter Story Trail. For their support of the installation and presentations of the trail during the fortnight and for the 80 guests/non-church attenders who came to the sessions running alongside their Wednesday morning Café, and to evening sessions.

Prayer:

  • For God’s grace, that He would be continuing to speak to the hearts of those who, this Easter, heard the good news of Jesus’s death and resurrection.
  • For the planning and prep of the assemblies to be delivered this coming term. For the children to listen, and to enjoy, understand and remember the story and its message. For God’s continued enabling of our story-telling team – Julie, Adele and Kathryn.
  • As the Fisherman’s Tale remains un-booked for the summer, and as we have already delivered three trails this academic year, we see this as an opportunity for our trusty team of volunteers to ‘stand down’ for a little while! Please pray for good use of the time this creates this term for reflection and prayer, planning and preparation.
  • For our relationships with the schools to continue, and for us to be able to meet all assembly requests. For the door to schools to remain open; for them to have a continued willingness to receive stories and truths of the bible.

Attending school for children in Nyakabungo and the wider Kanungu district means access to regular meals and healthcare as well as an education which enhances their future life chances.

Please…..

  • Pray that the on-going legal challenges regarding the ownership and administration of Nyakabungo PPS and the other Schools are resolved expeditiously, fairly and faithfully to the benefit of the children, staff and the wider community.
  • Give thanks that, despite those challenges, some alternative primary and secondary educational provision has now been established under the auspices of “Great Stewards of Hope” in conjunction with the UK Trustees……we humbly pray that similar alternative provision can be established at Nyakabungo in due course with continued support from our loyal supporters and donors.
  • Give thanks and continue to pray for continued resilience, safety and faith for Eleanor and Honest in their strategic roles as the leaders of “Great Stewards of Hope” in that wider community, prayerfully seeking God’s guidance to ensure that wise decisions are taken for the continued health, wellbeing and educational progress for all children.

Thanks as always for your partnership and love in Christ,
God bless, Martin and Helen.

Latest prayer points:

  • Schools are closed and we have had a two-day holiday club. Over 150 children attended and seemed to enjoy the games and crafts and were eager to learn from the Scriptures. Pray for the word to be at work even now, reminding the children of the great salvation accomplished by our risen Saviour and that they would repent and believe in Him.
  • Please pray for the ongoing baptism class. We have 7 attending. Pray especially for a father of two who is married to Dutch lady. He is from a Quaker background and has been faithfully attending church and loves Christ. Pray that God would save him and for him to be filled with grace to lead his family well as he points them to the Saviour.
  • In June we plan to have a marriage conference. As this will be our first conference, please pray for good planning and organization. Also, that the sessions will be clear, insightful and convicting, leading to lasting change in marriages. Pray for the marriages in our church to model the beautiful relationship of Christ and His Church and for young people in the church to follow the pattern set out in Scripture leading to godly marriages.
  • Given the high percentage of children/youth attending church, please pray for some older and mature believers to join us and help in discipling the many young believers.
  • Please continue to pray for our pursuit of a church venue. We currently have 2 options where we are considering/exploring a let to buy option. Pray for God’s clear leading and that this year we would get a lovely space/place that we can call home. Also pray for a generous spirit from the believers here and for God’s faithful provision for all we need including the much-needed admin to manage any building/construction as well as any contracts and legal matters.
  • Give thanks for the general cheerfulness of our children and for a good start to the school holidays. One of their aunts is visiting from Australia so please pray for good bonding and wonderful memories made together. Pray for our family generally to make the most of every opportunity and to share Christ with boldness when opportunities arise.

Barnabas Ministry is led by local Coordinators, who are based in the villages and communities where we are doing evangelism and discipleship.

Five attacks were recently attempted on the 15 Coordinators in Namutumba District. The last attack resulted in six narrowly escaping. But, the other nine were thoroughly beaten. Seven of them are recovering well, but two are still in critical condition. Please pray for physical healing, and also for emotional and spiritual healing from the trauma.

Pray also for the Lord to convict the hearts of the perpetrators – both those who engaged in the beating and those who hired them.

  • Praise God for never being exhausted. Thank Him for always being emotionally available for us, a steadfast rock upon whom we can depend.
  • Thank God for the retreat, for blessing the students with great, biblical teaching, for our speaker joining us from Austria, and for time for them to enjoy being with one another.
  • Please pray for 'N' as she continues to work with Zveš. Thank God for the blessing of a student leader! Pray that she would finish the work she needs to do to graduate so she can get more fully involved.
  • Praise God for Lydia being willing to step up into the role of Acting General Secretary. Please pray for the whole team as we work toward this change, and pray that she would be pursuing the glory of God in this role. Thank God that she's been here so long, and for her incredible servant heart that she can use to bless Zveš in this way. Pray that we would thrive under her leadership, and pray that we would find more Slovene staff.
  • Thank God for the students coming to Discussion Group. Please pray for 'P'. I know I don't need to see the fruit of the seeds sown, but it would be so great! Please pray that as we continue to debate eastern philosophy with Jesus' teachings that he would see how attractive Jesus is, and that he would want to follow Him rather than walking deeper into yoga. Pray that he would see the light of Jesus and be convinced that Jesus is the only way.
  • Thank God for my wonderful Bible study group, for bringing more students along, and for giving us such wisdom in Daniel to unpick.
  • Please pray for Friday's study on Jesus in Gethsemane. Pray that the Holy Spirit would move powerfully in the room and be touching people's hearts. Pray that if students feel convicted or moved that they would act on the impulse and not just let it slide. Disappointingly, it wasn't quite the success I'd hoped it would be, but since then two of the non-Christians have come to either my weekly Bible study and the international church service, so that's a huge blessing!
  • Please pray for me as I work to support a close friend whose mum died last week. Pray for energy as we help with the funeral arrangements, and emotional strength for me as I draw near to her. I'm glad I can help her, but it's also emotionally draining to be remembering how my dad died not that long ago.
