Churchwardens are elected annually. They are the senior lay leaders within the church. Ian Barton has served since 2009 and Danny Greaves was elected in 2017. Tony Breeze was appointed to the honorary position of Church Warden Emeritus in 2009, following 18 years service as a warden at St John's.
Lay Readers assist the clergy in the pastoral ministry of the parish in a variety of ways, but particularly in Sunday worship. David Charlton and Jeremy Hunns are our two current licensed readers.
Jackie and Jacqueline look after St John's Church Office and Richard manages St John's Church Centre and our other buildings. For details of how to get in touch and opening hours, please refer to the Contact Us page.
Every year, we aim to have one or more Ministry Trainees working at St John's. They may help out with specific areas of work, such as Youth Ministry, or may work more widely to assist with the smooth running of the church. In addition, trainees will receive formal training via the North West Partnership or equivalent training as appropriate.
Trainees may come from a variety of backgrounds - young people looking to serve God during a gap year, or possibly someone who is considering full-time ministry and who wants to gain some real experience of working in a church.
Interested? We are always on the lookout for new trainees. Start and end dates are flexible; alignment with the academic year is preferred but not essential.
Call or email us via the office if you simply want to find out more and ask any questions.
